100 individual stories collected—a huge milestone for me that I can check off the list as of today. Behind speaking to 100 people who pioneered FMX culture are hundreds of cold emails, DMs, voice messages and countless reminders. Dozens of rescheduled appointments, missed calls and postponed interviews because of technical issues. Appointments set up at the wildest times—at 3am, 5am, right before work, during lunch break, after work, during dinner time, at midnight—all that to make that one call happen. To gather one more story and to get one more detail.
Of course I’m not done yet. There are a few icons I still need to talk to. But I feel like I’m getting there. It takes a crapload of time and energy if you’re on the other side of the globe. The good thing is: while I’m trying to reach those who are the hardest ones to get, I have a lot to work on in the meantime. Many photo archives need to be collected. The timeline needs to be updated and filled up with more details. Retrieved photos need to be organized and selected. My website needs to be finished. Magazines need to be hunt down. The podcast episodes need to be prepared. There’s serious work to do, so onward to the next hundred conversations!
