Yes, there have been published books about FMX in the past. But the really substantial ones are just a handful, and during the process of writing my own book, I also want to highlight these gems in the following weeks one after another, because they lay the foundation to my approach.
This book is the German version of Garth Milan’s “Freestyle Motocross – Jump tricks from the Pros” from 2000, published by the MBI Publishing Company. For the German market, it has been translated by Udo Stünkel and published by the Delius Klasing Verlag.
In this book, Garth gives a brief summary of how FMX became a unique and independent sport – after a well written foreword by the one and only @mikemetzger . Then, there’s an extended section of showing trick sequences with more detailed descriptions of how to perform that trick. @krisrourke explains the Heel Clicker, @briandeegan38 shows how to perform a Hart Attack, @larrylinkogle gives a masterful explanation on the Double Can, @mikemetzger shows the process of a Superman and @ronniefaisst explains a Cordova — just to name a few. To round it up, Garth showed a selection of pictures from the top tier riders, which makes this book a tiny little gem.
Although my approach is to go much deeper than that, I love this project. Maybe not because of the design, but because of the inspirational and authentic content.
